I always remember the Wheaton 4th of July parade, but I did not remember that the fireworks happen on the 3rd. That may have changed in the last twenty-eight years, I don’t know. Thankfully, our neighbors clued us in.
We live a very short walk from Graf Park, so after an evening hanging out with our neighbors and their friends, we headed up.
It was a gorgeous night to be sitting outside. The cicadas have mostly disappeared.
The show was amazing, except towards the end went things went… awry. We saw some smoke billowing up near the launch site, then suddenly a few fireworks shot out – not up, mind you, but out. Towards the trees and the crowd. Umm… should we… move?
They stopped the show and aside from some screams, confusion, and likely a few traumatized toddlers, it was ok. But weird.
We walked home and were grateful that we didn’t have to find our car and figure out how to drive through the slow-moving throngs of pedestrians on Manchester (like us).
We did miss the parade the next day. But it was fun watching the parade from our front window the night before.
